eh.... i love being litt, so i think i could hold it down to about 50 kts.. maybe more.

in 35-40 i only depowerd it about an inch on the secondary, and was throwing kiteloops with no problem.

I was the only one on the water.. a squall came through, i'm just guessing it was around 35-40.

Have that on a meter or just guessing?

guessing, but i'm pretty sure it was in that range.

I was the only kiter there that went out in it, i had to depower my switchblade a little, that means it's over 30

i can hold that kite down without any depower untill around 30+

thats also not the only time i've been in nuking winds with it.. texas it was 30+ peak everyday.

not to mention TS alberto

Danny,

I plan on it :D

yet, it's just making me get even more crazy

Negative 20 to 30 is an amazing range for a kite :D
Sorry, I am just in a funny/good mood cuz we just had solid 18 for 2. 5 hours. That makes 4 days in a row with more to come and Donna is visiting this weekend :D She is really ripping up the waves here (while I just kind of crash off of them :x )

BigR 08-04-2006 05:42 AM

Scott, I've got that line trademarked but you can use it

the funniest part is when you're at -20 and your kite is flyin' backwards, LOL!

inferno 08-04-2006 06:21 AM

do you guys find it difficult to go upwind in -20???

josh, that switch blade 7 must be amazing cause ive seen you ride it in 17-18, and you say it works to 50 aswell
thats a huge range...

BigR 08-04-2006 07:25 AM

Yeah, Lori is definitely getting her 7m XBow starting at 18knts> Me , I get started with it at 22kts / although I would say its sweet spot for me is more like 25-42kts

Danny , I go BACKWIND at -20 , LOL!!!!  :o :D

I have found at -20 that I can do inverted tricks :)
I have been riding the 12m Contra in as litte as solid 10 knots up to 20 knots.
Last night was a perfect example. It started at 9 to 11 and I used a Glide (going upwind in current) then it picked up to about 17 to 20 and I just hopped on a smaller board (Skywalker 130).

The Contra is not the only bow that can do this. We have a local rider who uses his 12m Waroo just about every time he rides.

There is no way I could have rigged a C last night (me personally) for 10 and then held on to 20. I am not efficient enough to make a 14 work in 10 (Daryl is). I would need an 18. Then I'd get blown out in about 16 on it. The bow/hybrids definitely are cool for windranges.

The other thing I realized while riding last night : you can have more people on the water safely in tight quarters with bows. In the old days, having several people truly close in windy/gusty was asking for it, cuz someone was going to HAVE TO put their kite low to avoid getting tea-bagged at some point. If this was the upwind rider, it posed a quandry for that rider.

Now, even in 20 last night, someone is downwind of me 30 feet? I am litt? Big deal -- kite high, sheet out, no problem. Kind of cool and good for the sport, IMO :)
