Great WIND or What?
Man, another great set of days. About four hours on Friday, six yesterday and just three today. Friday was good but Saturday was epic! The winds were really good in the morning gusting into the high 20 kt. range. These flat kites sure love to jump big in powered conditions. It is great when you can find a calmer stretch of water to accelerate into while lining up a swell to boost off of. Helmets are good for more than just brushing up against sand, they also can help in high speed pelting against water in landings gone wrong. Sore but happy. How did everyone else do?

Re: Great WIND or What?
Yeah, it was good & unexpected. I like days where the ocean isnt so donkey w/ higher winds. I'm still a newb, but getting closer to mastering the art of upwind...

This weekend was really great @ Biscayne Bay. Im a newbie in the sport(around 1 year of experience?) and Sunday was like around 17-20mph on- shore @ Matheson Hammocks. I was pretty cautious. And Im telling you this: There was like around 15 kiters out there on the water around 4 in the afternoon. Lots of colors out there. I just waited for some of them to clear out. I walked out for about 100 yards and had a really gud time.
I'll tell you this...It blows when low tide ruins your session. I think Matheson has low tide around 4-6 in the afternoon. Hoping for wind for the rest of the short season. -Danny |
wind?
I might be heading down to key west May 11-17. I'm thinking about the flats....I know it's the end of the season, and the forcasts, unless I'm reading the wrong ones, are predicting 10knts.....Any opinions?
Anyhow if you could recommend any good weather sites other than IKITE, or tell me what you think, I'd appreciate it!! rsg |
WHOA
CHange of subject, but im willing to work it. Alright dude, I havnt been to the flats @ KEy west, although i live in miami,(I know, lame!) but the website i use is the following:http://www.rsmas.miami.edu/environment/ It has some gud forecasts for practically from the key west to Pensacola beach. Fantastic weekend ;)
Wind started picking up around 1pm both Sat & Sun. Switched down from a 16m to a 12m and was well powered till sunset. Looks as though it doing it AGAIN today. |
Dude, wut do u mean fantastic weekend... and by the way, which part of town were u at?
I'll tell u the lame weekend it was in miami: Sat and sunday there was 14mph tops and later decreased as the day gone by. I was pissed because the biggest kite I have is a 13 meter yarga. I guess its time to get a waroo or a switchblade, but will leave a hole in my wallet. I can feel the lame summer winds already Later, Danny |

DUDE ~ The part of town I was in was Boynton Beach @ Hammock park. Both days were GR8. Even Kited with a friend that I haven't seen in a while. Jeff from Bestkitboarding. Good to see him again and REALLY glad to see him and the company doing so well. Danny~ you'll NEVER make it threw the summer with your biggest kite being a 13m  I'm sure with all the hype about the bow kites, C kite prices will drop dramaticlly. Wait it out a lil longer and pick up a C kite cheap. Srry to hear that Miami never kicked in this weekend, But wind was only an hour away. Gotta go~ It's looking good outside right now and I'm off to the beach  |

Your lucky to be up north......supposidly u guys get the gud wind...we get the cheapy wind I know that a 13 wont get me anywhere, especially around june-july in miami! I was considering the bow kites...either the waroo, switchblade, or crossbow.... hummm Which u recomend? The C's.......im iffy about them...(although they are way cheaper!) BTW... Did u hear about the Contra from Cabrinha? Thats wicked sweet... Have fun rippin' the waters -Danny |
Anyone get a session in last night?
I snuck in a 2 hr session just north of Lake Worth Pier, wind was S-SW and filled the 12m. Wind was a little punchy from time to time. Water was incrediatably clear with ballyhoo & flying fish EVERYWHERE. Small 1-2ft SE wind swell ramps. Itch factor (sea-lice) are definatly starting to show  |

I find the wind as long as she's blowing is good anywhere :P I kite mostly (cause it's close to work and home) between Boynton Beach and Lake Worth. Yesterday afternoons conditions, Being S-SW were good once you got away from shore and out past the "GAP" in the pier. I also agree~ The NOAA station that was located on the Pier and Lost in the 2004 hurricane season is SADLY missed. It was the ONLY "TRUE" wind conditions report that I relied on. I may be a little bias there since it was @ my home break  You asked about points south, My decision yesterday was based apon 2 things. 1) There was a NASTY looking bunch of clouds hanging over Gulfstream/Delray @ 5pm last night 2) I didn't expect it to be ridable yesterday and my gear was at home (Lake Worth) My entire drive home, I was looking at my tell-tale trees and figured it for a 16m & 140cm fatty session. To my supprise as I head east over the Lake Worth Bridge, The white caps in the ICW told a diffrent story ~n~ So my 12m & 120cm hanacrew were my weapons of choice. |
Glad it worked out. It is good to have a gear formula that works. I hope it hangs in there past quiting time today.
You should get in touch with Jay to subscribe to the windomatic in Delray Beach. It is pretty accurate and invaluable to guys that ride in south and central PBC. I find it is more representative of our area than the Pompano station. As for Jupiter, enough said, it's a different world up that way. jay_blackburn@yahoo.com |
