It had to end sooner or later

All good things must come to end. 14 straight days with wind over 20 knts seemed to good to be true for any time of year, but especially for late May. It seems like now we'll be getting back to normal but hopefully the gods of wind will smile down on us again soon. What an amazing two weeks!

Next time you want to ride that lake on a west wind let me know, I would be down to ride. I wanted to ride on sunday but the west wind left me staying at home.

For me it was either Landboard on the West or Check out Lake Mangonia, I choose the lesser of the two evils

Next time I'm heading up to ride Mangonia Biz, I'll shoot you a PM

I can't recall so much wind in late May ever. Hope everyone got a good piece of it. This is starting out as an unusual summer, who knows what useable wind it might still bring.

I've kited Lake Mangonia several times. It has its pluses but also quite a few minuses. If I had to choose between Magonia or a roadtrip and boat to the Miami Flats for using westerly winds I would head to Miami. The wind should be stronger with less wind shadow and better wind from all directions, no nearby barriers, etc..

You definitely need a skilled assistant for launching and landing at the lake. I would bring sand bags to secure your kite leading edge down when not in use. There are limited grass areas there, lots of pavements and cars and a number of trees. Be sure to avoid the windsurfers who have ridden there for decades. It is best in fairly strong NW winds as land effects usually drop the forecast wind speed by 5 mph +. There is wind shadow from buildings from the W and WSW.

Where do you landboard in Palm Beach?

I agree that the Miami Flats would be and are a FAR better place to ride (hands down) But on the other hand, for myself at-least. Lake Mangonia is only 20 minutes from my door to the Lake (quick ride and minimal fuel usage) as apposed to Miami (1-1/2hr ride, Down and almost 3/4 of a tank of fuel in my Truck, round trip) Not to mention the Water taxi fee (unless I brought my own boat) and then with trailering make that a FULL tank of fuel plus fuel/oil for the boat.

So Miami requires a full day, While Lake Mangonia allowed me to kite for a couple of hours and still have the rest of the day to accomplish my priors.

Rick~ Did you catch any of those Thermals last night?
I brought my gear to work today in anticipation of a repeat :D

Okeeheelee Park (West on Forest Hill Blvd) or John Prince Park (Off Lake Worth Rd)

Most of my gear was still packed at the house from the trip when the wind really cranked up last night. I was down at the beach playing with a 50 year old underwater human powered swimming device that lets you hit speeds approaching 6 mph. I had one when I was a teenager and just found a replacement. Article to follow, it is a pretty intriguing device.

Wish I had my kiting gear last night all the same!
