Winter: done, over, finito.

Now thats its done, whats yer recollection of the season- good, bad, indifferent?

The prior 2 or 3 week period was great but that aside pretty marginal year. Had some real draughts in there.

Personal highlights were landing first backrolls, downlooping kite and the last sessions at Club M. Also love from the DNA.

Here is what I think:

1. if the winter season is over I'd say we had a decent season with probably 3 to 4 windy days per week and 12m being the most used kite (at least for me)

2. waveriding is the new style

3. the hybrids are the new way to go

4. Spanish Wells and Surfers beach rock

5. a bunch of new guys joined us and a bunch more wants to start

6. Go-slow is "the spot" in NE

7. no accidents

On a personal note I'm pretty proud of my kite-loops, thanks to my new 12m Thruster !!

What do you guys think ??

dillette53 04-10-2007 06:27 PM

Its my first season so i have nothing to compare it to, but here are my 2 cents.

We had preety good wind most of the winter about 3-4 rideable days like Matteo says.

I'd also say we had at least 7-10 days where it was nuking which was tons of fun

Club Med is i must say my favorite spot, I can only imagine it in 20 knts and big swell coming in, maybe a well placed hurricaine will bring us this perfect conditions who knows....
anyway this season i accomplished

A Herniate a Disc

Whiplash

Gouging my arm, to the point were looking back maybe i should have gotten stitches

And a broken Board

But overall im stoked that I finally was able to learn how to kiteboard and enjoy the sport, can't wait for next season or a summer trip to keep pushing my limits and learn new things.

I'm with you guys

for me i got to travel a bit and see more of the Bahamas.and ride at some of the prittyest beaches and water we have.
Nassau was awesome this season mainly riding a 12m and a 9m 4 to 5 days a week but spanish wells was the prittyest.
I will miss club med but I would rather remember it the way it was than try an go over there now.
teaching roby D and then him inspiring this old dog to get some new tricks down was rad.
some new guys came and some new guys left.(see ya Steve)
and no one me included got hurt there was some bruised egos "sorry Shuman"
the only bad thing is
#1 now my knees realy hurt and I'm going get the fixed after august.
#2 God I hope it's not over .
#3 God I hope it's not over .
we need a end of the season BBQ at Blue hill.

dillette53 04-12-2007 11:54 AM

BBQ at blue hill is a great idea i think we should try and get it together....who would be down for maybe a nice relaxing sunday afternoon??? I'll bring the beer!!

balloonboy 04-12-2007 01:00 PM

If the BBQ is at BH we can torch the ramp and toast marshmellows on it.

Matteo 04-12-2007 04:37 PM

how about this Sunday at Coral Harbour ?

dillette53 04-12-2007 09:22 PM

im getting back late sunday evening so this sunday wouldn't be so good for me

balloonboy 04-13-2007 01:30 PM

Sunday at CH could be great because its supposed to be rocking windwise from SSW (sorry Roberto).

balloonboy 04-17-2007 10:35 AM

Winter back by popular demand

Sunday was windier than advertised- 20kts at CH in advance of the front.

Monday was sweet at BB (Beach Bay near Delaporte). Low tide made for nice sandy launch and wind speed, (18 or so) direction and waves were very good. Gotta sail there more often. No Spring breakers like CB has, but neither dirty water, jet-ski ho-dads and nasty chop.

PHENN 04-17-2007 03:35 PM

You call THAT a winter?

In no particular order

1. Found time to learn how to kiteboard about 10 times between October and March.

2. Found a crew of people too relaxed and too in love with kiteboarding to leave me to learn on my own. Even though I couldn't find the right arrangements for a proper lesson.... these wierd bahamian guys helped me out wherever they could even when it meant giving up some of their time. Who ever heard of such a thing?

3. In march I found lots of time to ride and got good enough so that AJ couldn't recognize me and my horrible stance/style from a distance of 200 metres... (that was actually AJ's greatest compliment! "Steve you'relooking really good out there... I couldn't even tell it was you!!")

4. I crashed into Mark... this was secretly my goal in coming to the bahamas.

5. I picked up kiteboarding! This is a feat... others in my situation picked up substance abuse problems and not much more. I think I win that contest any day of the week.

6. I found out who was the better boarder between Robby and Shuman... I've taken the secret with me to Canada... and I'm not telling anyone. Let the battle rage!

I'm going to keep on posting here even though I'm now in Toronto... but let this post be my thanks to everyone down there including Ballooner for the gear, Mateo for his ridiculous patience on several occasions, and then AJ, Robby, Shuman, Mark, Jason, Dave and Ballooner for the encouragement... I think I got everyone.

You guys have a good scene down there.... which is good because scenes are usually by definition horrible things. It's small, focused, and tight knit. When I get back down there... I hope you guys are all still boarding, squabbling, helping, jumping, looping and whatever else happens to come to mind.

Thanks again eh?

Sorry your stay was so brief. Come back and visit soon.

Post pics from Cherry Beach (don't forget your down-filled wetsuit and hood or you'll get a wicked icecream headache).

p.s. Did you get my message about the bar? Drill out rivet on bar end piece.
Cut to desired length. Re-rivet piece back on. Repeat. Enjoy.

Matteo 04-18-2007 08:16 PM

Sunday was great. It's been a while since we have ridden in CH.....

Monday I went out at Beach Bay or whatever it's called. I liked it too, I wish I had my Converse though. The wind was pretty gusty (12-20+) but these new kites make these kind of days fun whereas the old C kites made me just more upset.

Not a beginner's spot though.....
