Great video

Pretty unreal editing. Us old guys will like the music.

Cool software effects, but waaay over done. Not one complete trick start to finish in the whole video! Watch it without the sound and you will get dizzy.

Skyway Scott 04-24-2007 09:28 PM

Really? I thought it was unreal. That's the first kiting video I have ever watched that made me want to kite right then and there.
I have a pretty good sound system hooked up to my computer, I wonder if that made a big difference?
Without the music, that video wouldn't make sense, that's for sure.

invisible 04-25-2007 06:02 AM

no sound on my home computer at the moment...

Skyway Scott 04-25-2007 06:19 AM

Yeah. Well I confess, I love the music in it and the timing of the edits. Outshined is one of my favs.

It is kinda overdone (in a way) but I thought it captured the emotion of kiting pretty well. The camera shots were crisp with color etc. I liked how he said "I am just bullshitting" about the kite, that cracked me up and the Beavis and Butthead thing about your kite sucks was funny too.

All the moves he does are so far over my head, that I wouldn't watch the vid to learn (like Billy does). I just watch for a "Rocky" type inspiration.

bryanleighty 04-25-2007 08:49 AM

pretty damn amazing all around..

tho i agree with tom that seeing the full trick does give me more of a WOW than fancy editing..
but then again, this is some seriously top quality production work. edits are amazing and they really showcase the sport.
probably the best video i have seen that captures the raw power of kiting..

for some AMAZING footage of complete tricks.. this one cant be beat:

http://www.kiteforum.tv/component/op...025/Itemid,30/

the kiteloop Len10 does at about the 2:06 mark is simply jaw dropping. can you imagine rocketing across the sky like that??? and hes in breaking surf too. WTF?!??!?!?!

inferno 04-25-2007 09:13 AM

another good one.....

http://forum.bestkiteboarding.com/viewtopic.php?t=5024

this one has some really clear shots of how to hit certain tricks, and you can go through it one frame at a time...

bryanleighty 04-25-2007 11:16 AM

hmmm.

kgb
mobe
etc..

all look like the same trick over and over and over again.

i know how insanely difficult these are and how amazing Alvaro is but its just not pleasing to me to watch over and over again.. jump, spin, pass, land.
jump, spin (a little different), pass, land..

wash, rinse, repeat.

as a spectator, i'd take one of Billy's 40 foot board-offs any day.

toby wilson 04-25-2007 11:18 AM

wax on, wax off Daniel Son.

Well, I agree mostly... Ruben does the same thing over and over... it actually gets boring unless he throws in a kiteloop with it. I think he is a crazy good rider, but I think he sort of lacks developed style... his moves look abrupt and forced... sort of jerky even.... vs Billy's smooth handlepasses that look like one smooth fluid movement. Thats something that comes with age and experience not balls out determination.

Speaking as a spectator of course because I can't do anything these guys are doing.

Skyway Scott 04-25-2007 11:51 AM

These are some reasons I liked the other video more than most.
I get really, really bored with most videos out there. Especially when the guy looks like a dot under a kite (shot too far away).
Since I dabble in editing, I was blown away by the editing and cinematography.

bryanleighty 04-25-2007 12:02 PM

i like how powered ruben's riding is. he goes HUGE all the time. Alvaro typically keeps jumps lower and spins like a top. I think Aaron Hadlow is combo of the two.. incredible smooth tricks w/ power.

i dont think folks here realize how lucky we are to have the quality of local talent that we are used to seeing.

couple saturday's ago i got to watch Billy, Scott and Noel (Best rider who frequents from the Keys) going off when the wind picked up. it was like an impromptu boosting competition with these three. I'll bet it was not even intentional, but to the onlookers it was pretty frickin awesome.

still, my fav trick from local rider is a transition that Jayson does. its like a quick spin downloop/frontroll transition but is done so smooth and effortlessly.

Skyway Scott 04-25-2007 12:12 PM

The biggest difference is that I just go up and come back down.
Billy and Jayson do about 52 tricks while up there. :p

I am still happy just to go high and land, maybe throw a trick every once in a while. That's good enough for me.

I remember when I started (windsurfing background), my goal was to to a double backroll, double front, some transitions etc. I thought it would take forever, and remember thinking "when I can do that, I will be happy".

Well, all those things were accomplised pretty quickly and I am still pretty happy. Billy and Jay are always getting better, pretty great to see.

I too would rather watch those two all day long than most PKRA stuff.
But, I bet those riders would be more entertaining if the PKRA had different "rules" on how to get high scores during an event.

invisible 04-25-2007 12:38 PM

Oh yeah I love that transition J does too... I was asking about it just other day trying to get the whole thing in my head. I learn a *LOT* just from studying the better riders. I learn something completely different from each of them and try to apply it to my riding...

Ruben rides balls out, no doubt about that. I am amazed he can still walk after some of the powered slap down landings from those kite loops, on a fairly big board even. Crazy.

ive tried those a few times after seeing J hit them,
easy to throw, hard to stick the landing, even harder to land smooth...actually i havent landed and rode away from one yet, but they feel awsome..
tom, thats what i was telling you to try the other day, kite high, both hands to the front, edge hard, and release when the kite pulls....easier said then done (basically a complete reverse F-16)

btw, make sure you have plenty of downwind room, i almost took a guy out my first day trying them

invisible 04-25-2007 09:03 PM

You're talking about something different I think... you are talking about jumping from a downloop... jayson does an unhooked jumping transition and downloops at the top (to make the transition work).

bayflite 04-25-2007 09:28 PM

ever seen B.P. jump one of the jetty's?
nutz!

Skyway Scott 04-29-2007 08:34 AM

Neither Ruben nor Billy has squat on these Kung Fu Masters!
(too much idle time on 'net while playing poker....)
http://www.teamcoyote.net/2002Coyote/pages/kungfu.html

and proof that the soundtrack is everything. These guys look awesome.

Skyway Scott 01-04-2008 07:52 AM

Well, someone just tried to find "this" video on KF recently.
It sort of renewed my interest in it and I found it again, as well.

http://www.kiteforum.com/phpbb/viewt...624&highlight=

I ended up watching it ten times, back to back.
I have an awesome sound system on my computer, that makes a difference.
I was so impressed with this video, I wrote to the guy that edited it.
I guess Aaron Hadlow likes the editing too, :)

Here is some of what he wrote back (I took out some parts)

Hi Scott

Thanks for the message. I haven't looked at that vid
for a long time... I'd probably cringe if I looked at
it again. Took about two months to make 3 or 4 hours a
day. That was it basically all the footage I had,
which ...... (edit). Never made a
video longer than 10 mins, that would probably take a
year haha.

Some people don't like the choppy editing style but.....(edit out :) )

Anyways I'm just finishing off a vid for Aaron Hadlow
hoping to have it finished in the next week or two.
Watch this space, got some new fx no one has done
before in a kite vid ;-)

but yeah sound is 70% of what you see.

Cheers
Andy

Man, I can't wait to see this Aaron Hadlow clip!

Here is a link to the Ruben clip, it takes a long time to download (it's fairly high def, worth the wait, imo)
Once it does download, crank it, like Andy says, the sound is 70 percent of the video.

http://www.kitecinema.com/len10/theW...shoreV2-HL.mov

here is the cheese whiz, low grade download. The video is worth it just for the Beavis and Butthead "my kite is better than yours" sketch. :)

Skyway Scott 01-04-2008 11:34 AM

I just got another message. Here is another Andy Gordon video.
Tom, I think you will like this one.

http://riders.dk/Default.aspx?ID=1317&galleryID=275

Skyway Scott 01-18-2008 06:22 PM

Here is the latest Andy Gordon video. It just went live today, I believe.

This guy is awesome.

Check it out. It's worth it to download the high def version. It takes about 3 minutes.

http://www.hadlowpro.com/

I still liked the Ruben vid more, mainly because of the music, I think.
At least Mr. Hadlow ripped a Jimmy Page lick off of Heartbreaker near the end. :)

Danimal8199 01-19-2008 09:02 AM

Scott, I gotta go with the Hadlow video over the Len10. I love me some soundgarden and rage, but thre effects and the fact that you see him actually land complete tricks did it for me! Thansk for sharing that though.

Skyway Scott 01-19-2008 10:09 AM

Cool. Andy likes his latest better than the Len10 vid too, he said in an e-mail last night.
For the Lenten video, he had to use provided footage, so I think he was sort of forced to make it choppy. He said he watched it again last night and it was all chopped up, too much so.
Funny, cuz I personally love that mtv style stuff and told him it was awesome.

I think maybe blending some MTV style with some less choppy would be cool.
He's just really good at vids and I admire that.

I am hoping he makes longer videos and sells them, but he doesn't seem to have the time.
Each one of these clips takes him about 100 hours.

Tom Stock 01-19-2008 08:14 PM

Well, the Hadlow video had crazy good EFFECTS but the riding shots were pretty bad... tricks so close the are chopped, slow motion, etc. Very few riding shots over all of the effects. Anyone can spend $$ for expensive effects. I would rather see tricks than effects.

The len video of course, not many tricks but dang with kiteloops like that who needs them.

Skyway Scott 01-20-2008 06:59 AM

That's cool. I can lend you a progression video.

Unimog Bob 01-20-2008 10:32 AM

Dude that hadlow vid is sick! No complete tricks?? Someone needs some new contacts. from take off to landing, hooked and unhooked, hell both at the same time. Did you catch him launch hooked, loop, then unhook mid air then pass it? Sick sick sick! Did yo cacth him pass it by trowing the bar behind his back and grab it comming out the other side. I'm glad they slow it and frame it at some points so I even have a chance of appreciating what is going on. Matching it to the music and layering in the water sound is awesome.

Skyway Scott 01-21-2008 07:29 PM

Here ya' go Tom.
This video is pretty good.
http://www.kiteforum.tv/index.php?op...d=2142&Itemid=

So is this one. http://www.kiteforum.tv/component/op...019/Itemid,30/

I doubt she is anywhere near as strong as Billy, btw. :)

Danimal8199 01-21-2008 09:47 PM

she kites like a girl! :D

Skyway Scott 01-21-2008 10:37 PM

I wish I could, then!!

andres 01-23-2008 08:00 PM

Think that's good...? check this out! the video embedded on the front page.

http://www.aaronhadlow.com/

Skyway Scott 01-23-2008 09:20 PM

I know :)

That's what we're talking about. :D
