Warning: Matheson Hammock For Wednesday

This just in from ASM regarding Matheson Hammock for tomorrow:

"NOTICE: To All Kiteboarders: Matheson Hammock Park will potentially be closed to kiteboarding on Wednesday September 29th, during the height of the TD or the named tropical storm it is forecasted to become. Top estimated wind speeds are anticipated to reach upwards of 50 mph. As we receive reports that the storm has diminished in strength or fails to reach it’s forecasted potential we will reopen the park to kiteboarders and notify everyone of its status.

South Florida Under Tropical Storm Warning as TD16 Forms
Tuesday afternoon, at 5 p.m., the National Hurricane Center reported the depression had maximum sustained winds near 35 mph. Forecasters at the NHC expect to see it strengthen to a named tropical storm later in the evening.

At 5 p.m, the depression was located about 330 miles south-southwest of Miami, at 21.5°N 82.4°W, and moving north-northwest near 10 mph.

The tropical storm warning covers Jupiter Inlet south to East Cape Sable, Florida Bay and the Florida Keys. Warnings have also been issued for the Cayman Islands, parts of Cuba and the Bahamas. A flood watch is also in effect for South Florida and is expected to last into Wednesday night, at 8 p.m.”"

It looks like a big wet mess right now, but no wind. High tide is around 1 pm which is about when the windy part of the system should be moving through. The parking lot at Matheson could be underwater (SALT water) during this time (high tide + 30 knots from the East), so I can't imagine that Matheson would be open for business today. I called Christophe to see about Crandon park, but I haven't heard back.

Yes the decision to close Matheson makes sense if parking gets flooded :)
In Crandon we pretty much rely on the lifeguards call, since they are the authority whether the beach is open or closed and we have to abide by their rules .

for now only rain. Wind later but if associated with T-storms and Lightning , we close . safety issue.

Looks like mainly a rain event so far, which may taper off soon. The front seems to be easing the system further offshore to the east, at least for points north of SE Florida. The shifting of the right front quadrant east of Florida should spare us a lot of rain and some wind. Still no real wind showing up and may not except for the odd squall in the bands. There seems to be a bit in the low 30's down around the Caymans but nothing to the north yet.

The satellite suggests most of it may be shoved east by the front
