Something a bit different.

"The Mountain
by Terje Sorgjerd

This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide.
Spain´s highest mountain @(3718m) is one of the best places in the world to photograph the stars and is also the location of Teide Observatories, considered to be one of the world´s best observatories.

The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. There was a lot of hiking at high altitudes and probably less than 10 hours of sleep in total for the whole week. Having been here 10-11 times before I had a long list of must-see locations I wanted to capture for this movie, but I am still not 100% used to carrying around so much gear required for time-lapse movies.

A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April (bit.ly/g3tsDW) and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes.

Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene was ruined. To my surprise, my camera had managed to capture the sandstorm which was backlit by Grand Canary Island making it look like golden clouds. The Milky Way was shining through the clouds, making the stars sparkle in an interesting way. So if you ever wondered how the Milky Way would look through a Sahara sandstorm, look at 00:32.

As long as we're looking up, how about the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis also by Terje Sorgjerd ...

"I spent a week capturing one of the biggest aurora borealis shows in recent years.

Shot in and around Kirkenes and Pas National Park bordering Russia, at 70 degree north and 30 degrees east. Temperatures around -25 Celsius. Good fun.

Paul Lang with The Kiteboarder Mag mounted a GoPro camera to his DSLR housing (the machine gun rigged knitting machine sound). He provided the GoPro video with still shot insets from the DSLR.

Jetman vs. the Grand Canyon ...

'Jetman' zooms along rim of Grand Canyon in first US flight

"Jetman, aka adventurer Yves Rossy, hit 190 m.p.h. Saturday as he flew with a jet-pack above the Grand Canyon. Where some see self-promotional stunt man, others see a boundary-breaker.

By Daniel B. Wood, Staff writer / May 11, 2011

Harnessed into a six-foot-wide, 45-pound carbon-fiber wingpack shaped like a boomerang with a raised fin, Swiss adventurer Yves Rossy pulled off his first escapade in the United States on Saturday, shooting along the rim of the Grand Canyon for about eight minutes before opening his parachute and wafting down to the canyon floor.

It was a spectacle, to be sure – and the ride will definitely end up on YouTube. But whether Jetman's performance qualifies as a publicity-seeking stunt of the "balloon boy" variety or a quest to expand the limits of human endeavor, well, that depends on the beholder.

As for Mr. Rossy, he portrays his winged adventures as a bid to push the envelope of human flight.

“I built this wing to realize my own dream: to fly like a bird,” he says in an interview released by his Beverly Hills-based marketing firm, Centigrade Inc. “Flying is a passion. I always wanted to fly since I am a child. My inspiration has always been to realize my dream.”

Rossy does not exactly float through the air like a bird; he rockets along at 35 to 50 miles per hour. For his Grand Canyon adventure, he hit 190 m.p.h., his promotional team said. He steers with a gentle turn of his head and arms. Jetman has already traversed the English Channel and the Alps, but he ended up in the waves when he tried to cross the Straits of Gibraltar in November 2009."

Billy Bosch and crew share some spring fun in Cocoa Beach. They include a fair amount of gopro line footage too and a spin up in the indoor sky diving chamber in Orlando.

Just returned from an intense three day trip to Curacao. There was scooter free diving in the morning and kiting in the afternoon. Long fun days with two GoPros capturing the action from the kite and my helmet. Special thanks to Eric Post of http://www.curacaokiteboarding.com/ for renting me a board and hooking me up with the Mermaid trip to Klein Curacao.

Running off the windward shore of the desert island of Klein Curacao in the Netherland Antilles just above Venezuela. The wind was fairly strong and the seas high but what a great venue for kiting and video.

The intense wave energy and corrosion have smashed the forward section of the wreck to plate and shards. It is amazing the aft section is still somewhat intact.

Great filming but not a time to make a mistake. I was going to circumnavigate the small island but figured to call it a a day after I got the shots and circle back south around to the western lee side where the boat was anchored. I covered about a mile in heavy seas and strong winds on the windward side and a mile in flat calm waters in the lee or the southern half of the island. Interestingly, the really strong gusty winds were to the lee of the island through wind shadow/rotor. The whole island is just 1.5 miles long. Complete writeup with lots of shots and video on the main island of Curacao and KC to come soon. Projects are piling up!
