Square Tacos Come To Bone Island!!!
Heading down to the Keys for wind time on the flats, diving or just hanging out? Here's another stop to make at Cayo Huesto, Amigos Tortilla Bar! Some shots of various island views are thrown in along the way.
http://www.fksa.org/albums/album550/KW_1902.jpg It's just off frame to the left, in about another 100 years! http://www.fksa.org/albums/album214/...Keys.sized.jpg Just get on US 1 South and follow your nose. Paul Menta of The Kitehouse, Grand Cafe, Cuban Coffee Queen fame along with amigos have started a new eatery in Key West. This one has a prime location within a kite jump of Sloppy Joes, Capt. Tony's, less than a block from Mallory Square and a lot of other prime Duval spots in the Old Town. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5578117_n.jpg The three Amigos, Jesse, Eric and Paul. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album550/18_G.jpg I stopped by before the restaurant was opened and work was still underway. Aside from having a great location, it is has a nice setup too. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/Amgios_VR.sized.jpg The locale, Click photo for full sized image http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/3_IMG_4898.jpg They did a great job on the interior, brick and timber. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/KW_GOPR0017.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/Interior.jpg The food preparation and ordering area http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/...W_IMG_7996.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/4_IMG_4885.jpg The square taco machine doing its thing http://www.fksa.org/albums/album80/air_2.sized.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/...llas.sized.jpg ... "More Filling, Less Spilling" ... http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/cat_man_s.jpg Cooking hot dogs (or is it cats?!), at Mallory Square. You're better off at Amigos. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/menu_1.thumb.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/menu_2.thumb.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/menu_back.thumb.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/6_G.thumb.jpg A look at the "proto menu" subject to change. Also there's the hot sauce list, these guys have a ton of them, hot stuff! Click on thumbnails for full sized images http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/...4901.sized.jpg Paul sports an imported coke from Mex. Unlike local coke, this stuff uses cane sugar, no corn syrup, making it a more REAL, real thing. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/5_G.sized.jpg Still more Mexican imported beverages. Trying to keep things more eco-friendly, no cups, straws are issued. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/...VR_s.sized.jpg Click image for full sized photo http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/17_G.sized.jpg South of the border gear http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/...4848.sized.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album550/19_G.sized.jpg A fraction of the hot sauce in the place. One of the three separate dining areas is just beyond the glass. This was pre-opening so the boards were still in place. Now you can sit there and watch things from Duval, Sloppy Joes and Capt. Tony's while chowing down on tacos. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/Birs.jpg Seating for the place down the street, really it's for the birds. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/8_G.sized.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/9_G.sized.jpg You can eat in comfort knowing not only are your culinary needs looked after but also those related wind storm hazards too. http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/...1093.sized.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/...4851.sized.jpg And unlike Hemingway who was supposed to have said "I'd rather eat monkey manure than die in Key West," you need not worry about ingesting primate scat or expiring on Bone Island. Just grab some fine cooking at Amigos and great memories on and about the island. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...cex/heming.jpg Hemingway armed for monkey, should have just gone out for tacos instead. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...cex/heming.jpg http://www.fksa.org/albums/album549/...VR_s.sized.jpg So, next time you're in the Lower Keys, checkout Amigos, say high to Paul & the amigos and grab some square tacos! Hey Rick,
Amigos is up and running, my brother is down in Key West this week to celebrate his birthday, I remembered this story and called Amigos and told them that I was a client of the Kitehouse and a friend of Rick Iossi, the manager remembered your visit. They were more than happy to take my credit card number over the phone so I could treat my brother to a Birthday feast, he went today with his family and they all said the food was Excellent! JP |
Great story JP, thanks for writing and glad the Amigos came through for your brother for a tasty birthday meal. Here is the photo you forwarded from the restaurant.
