Kiting with Light East Wind

Kiting with light east winds in south Florida is an accident waiting to happen.... and a good possibility of losing access as well. This past weekend I saw numerous kiters in the surf unable to get out of the shore break dodging swimmers, and diving their kites over people walking along the beach. If we dont police ourselves better, its just a matter of time until we lose access.

In light onshore winds, getting out through a narrow area, or at all, can be tough. If you don't have a large enough kite, board, enough skill you may not get offshore much at all. Throw in waves and it becomes even harder. This has been an ongoing problem at some South Florida launches for years. Sometimes, with lighter winds, higher waves, you just CAN'T get beyond 100 yards within the narrow channel. In this case you don't ride there. You are right, we need to self-police ourselves effectively if we don't want to be shut down.
