Lake okeechobee

Hi all, how come I can't find any info on kiteboarding at lake okeechobee or its surrounding areas? Is the lake too much of a remote are for riding or there are other reasons why no1 goes there?

Also, what other lakes in Fl are good for riding?

Thanks.

I will be interested in what some of the others have to say in response to your question. Inland riding on lakes can leave something to be desired IF you have a choice between that and coastal kiting. Winds are often uneven, light to excessively gusty. Some lakes are better than others. Even in flat Florida, the uneven and attenuated winds probably frequent Lake Okeechobee. Most guys I would think just drive to the east or west coast. More about inland riding at:

So, does any1 ride on sweet water in FL?

I'd like to know if there's an alternative to costal living (and kiteboarding) in S.FL close to a good riding lake / river.
Well for those who haven't guessed yet, I'm looking for a new area to move to in FL but these hurricanes really make you want to stay inland!

Thanks

Inland riding in Florida has some serious issues with gusty winds. Some guys do it but most I have talked to over the years drive to the coast.

Regarding hurricanes, low lying inland areas can flood as well. You could try to find a high lying coastal area 8 to 12 miles inland and might fare as well as anyone in many storm events.

Orlando is well inland and was hit four times by hurricanes last year. Pick a good spot to weather things but I wouldn't totally avoid high lying areas in the vicinity of the coast.

Gators

Lots of gators!

Just a thought, I fish lots of lakes, on a good warm day, I may see 30 or 40 alligators sunning themselves.

I guess lots of people still wakeboard florida lakes....*shrug*
