Lightwind board?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a good lightwind board, preferably a crazy-fly all around, jimmy lewis flightdeck or a glide.

I'm 145lbs. What make and size would you guys recommend?

ricki 01-10-2008 12:32 PM

I weigh 45 lbs. more so my take on an appropriate board size might be off. Lots of guys are on Glides and doing well in the lighter wind in my area. May only come in 149 cm making the choice easier? Come on folks, no end of kiters specializing in working the most out of light winds in Florida. What size might be best for a guy around 145 lbs.? I generally go for the largest size available for the low end myself.

You could step it down one notch from the Glide, although that would work, I think you could get away with a tad less and have more fun.

Something like a 135-140 by 44/45 is my guess.
Plenty of makers of boards in that size.

All boards have different rockers etc, but that's a ball park.
If it's for light wind, make sure it's moderately flat rocker.
A larger board would work for sure, but if it picked up a little, it might become cumbersome and not as much fun at your size.
Without saying this is "the board" (cuz tons of others exist), here is an example (in the 138 by 44 size).

I rode this once and it was really nice.

Other companies have similar sizes.

I just picked up the 2008 135x46 CrazyFly Cruzer Pro and I was easily riding upwind in 10 -12mph winds on a 13m Ozone. I am 6'1" at 170 lbs and the board is short enough to do all your normal tricks while its wide enough for riding in light winds. I hope this helps you out.

Heck Chris, I bet you could ride that combo in 9 to 10, don't ya' think? :)
Of course, who really wants to? 12 knots is literally ten times more fun than 9 knots. Funny how wind works that way.
I just realized, are you talking about the Ozone Edge?
I would love to try that if it's possible.
Rich says it's awesome.

I have been trying to contact you to see if you got the Kite from Rich yet. He was going to give it to me to hand off to you but I was already out on the water when he left. He said he gave it to another kiter from Tampa named Chris too.

That was a great combination to ride that in the keys. I might use for the race. :)

Skyway Scott 01-10-2008 03:33 PM

Yeah. He gave it to a relatively new rider I met at EB about a month ago.
He is named Chris, too, like you know.
Okay, no worries.
Was the kite any good? :)

I am just curious.

Amazing kite. I would not recommend it for a noob. It has very light bar pressure so a beginner will constantly be looking the kite to see where its at, but i think they all do that no matter what kite they are on. I was guilty of that when I started out. I was amazed with it's turning speed and the low end. Not a bad kite at all. I didn't get a chance to look at its construction to see how durable it is.

Thanks. I would think it's made bomber. I was interested in how it flew, Rich seemed pumped on them.

I have ridden the new Skywalker lightwind board, and other than the board being hideous in color, it is an amazing light wind board! I weigh almost as much as you, and I can ride that Skywalker and the 10M Era in 9kts. I recently picked up an Aggression Superphatty can do the same. A new Skywalker is much easier on the wallet. (I just got lucky and got the used SP from Scott).
