Usually the last weekend in January. In some years Jeremy has given late notice to try to reduce the quantity of response. I guess it has been too successful at times in the past.

I need to schedule some vacation time from work with adequate notice.

Any recent news on tentative date for the 2010 Invasion?

We're in January now, so....

i think that the jupiter invasion will be happening in Miami this year... just kidding Jerm, let us know what's up! Come on, you needed a little extra work and stress to start the year out right. I'm sure Damo and Modica will be a big help (he he he). Fire it up.

Just got this in from Jeremy via email:

"Working on the format now. Dates: Jan 29-31.

We will have Paddleboarding and Kiteboarding this year.

More to come later.

Happy New Year!

Jeremy"

Just talked to Jon Modica, he just put up the latest on the event on Jupiter Kiteboarding's site at:

http://jupiterkiteboarding.com/store...on-p-2147.html

including:

"JKI 2010 Januarary 29th, 30th and 31st

The 2010 Jupiter Kite Invasion has gone through a MASSIVE overhaul in its format. To make the event as simple as possible, there will be a single entry fee for the events. There will be an amateur/professional and mens/womens division that will be split at the event. We will run events pending weather conditions and number of entries. Below are the basic details for each event.

Big Air Expression Session – Each heat will have 10-15 riders in a 20 minute expression session. This will include both best kiteloop and overall best trick. ALL JUMPS MUST BE DONE OVER THE JUMP BOUY!
Race – The race format will be integrated from course racing (sailing) and boarder cross. The course will depend on the conditions present. The number of races held will also depend on the wind. The format and rules will be explained thoroughly during the riders’ meeting.
Strapless/Wave and Freestyle – This format will be standard single/double elimnation.
Paddleboard – Don’t be afraid of lacking wind. Juipter Paddleboarding and Jupiter Kiteboarding have teamed up to make sure you have fun at the 2010 Jupiter Kite Invasion! We will have races, and pending waves…a surf event.
BY REGISTERING ONLINE, YOU SIGN UP FOR ALL EVENTS. Riders will be asked which event(s) they would like to compete in on the first day. Pending weather conditions we will limit the amount of events each rider may compete in. For example, you may only be allowed to compete in 1 or 2 events above.

WHEN REGISTERING ONLINE - EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS SO, YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED SHIPPING!

- MAY THE WIND GODS BE WITH US -"

If you want to compete be sure to register on the Jupiter Kiteboarding website and to monitor that site for updates.

It is still pretty far off from a weather standpoint, but it looks like the weekend should deliver both nice kiting and SUP conditions at times. Should be a blast!

villin 01-28-2010 03:15 PM

where is the registration to be held? Any updated plans?

Here is the current NWS forecast for the area immediately north of the event site. The site is near the dividing line of two zones. The southern forecast zone is similar. EXPECT the forecast and actual wind conditions to change some more over the next few days:

Overnight...East winds 10 knots. Seas 1 to 2 feet with a dominant period 7 seconds. Mostly smooth on the intracoastal waters.

Friday...East winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas 1 to 2 feet with a dominant period 7 seconds. A moderate chop on the intracoastal waters.

Friday Night...Southeast winds 15 knots. Seas 3 to 4 feet with a dominant period 4 seconds. A light chop on the intracoastal waters.

Saturday...South winds 15 to 20 knots. Seas 3 to 4 feet. Choppy on the intracoastal waters. Showers likely and chance of thunderstorms.

Saturday Night...Southwest winds 15 knots becoming west 10 to 15 knots after midnight. Seas 3 to 5 feet. A light chop on the intracoastal waters. Chance of showers in the evening.

Sunday...North winds 15 to 20 knots. Seas 5 to 6 feet. Choppy on the intracoastal waters. Slight chance of showers.

Sunday Night...Northeast winds 10 to 15 knots. Seas calm.

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mfl/marine/

North winds are side onshore in Jupiter. True south winds are side offshore in Jupiter. It is possible that they may not be true south winds, could bend parallel to the coast nearshore, creating side shore winds. This despite the wider area forecast. Fingers crossed. May bring some nice swells in for the SUP portion of the event as well.

Watch the forecasts, have fun.

villin 01-28-2010 10:01 PM

thank you again. about to make the drive down. Hopefully the rain holds off.

Umm, where is the even site? Near the kite shop? I can't find any info here or at the shop's website as to the location.

Here is a map, used to have one on the shop website. Wonder why they ditched it.

http://tinyurl.com/JupiterKiteBeach

Take Indiantown Road east from either I-95 or the Turnpike, turn south on A1A in sight of the beach. The kiting area is to the east of that undeveloped tree covered area to the North of "The Bluffs North" (see the map). You should see kite gear all over the place on the cars, and hopefully a few dozen in the air.

ricki 01-30-2010 08:03 AM

Just spoke with Neil by phone. The wind is light and side offshore, hopefully getting out of the night time pattern. They are going to get some SUP races off now and watch winds develop. South should cause some nice swell development to add to things. I checked and it is already blowing south of Jupiter, perhaps working northward up the coast. It seemed to do this yesterday. It is 16 to 20 kts. avg. 17 kts. in central Palm Beach County now. Hopefully the wind will continue to move up the coast and be there shortly. The winds may bend side shore from side off with thermals too. It is sunny right now, a good sign. The zone forecasts both north and south of the event say around 15 to 20 kts. S. Jeremy was talking about staging PWC or a boat if there is an offshore component. Wind in south Palm Beach County is getting stronger as I'm typing this. I'm heading up there now.

mcdunc 01-31-2010 06:07 AM

Hey,
Anyone know what the events are for today, with NNE winds forecast?
What events took place yesterday?
Dunc

ricki 01-31-2010 07:18 AM

Winds should be side onshore today per the forecast. They are just north of Jupiter in Jenson Beach at 21 mph and moving south now. Should be in Jupiter soon from indications. The forecast from NWS is:

Saturday...South winds 18 to 22 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet near shore and up to 4 to 6 feet well offshore. Intracoastal waters a choppy. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.
Hi of 70 F

As to what happened yesterday, check out the Mystery Event post.

mcdunc 01-31-2010 07:39 AM

Thanks Rick,
Really had a hard time locating that Mystery Post, but it sounds like most of the events will happen today, since it was called early yesterday.
Dunc
PS: Great pics BTW

ricki 01-31-2010 08:02 AM

Thanks!

As a rule each day is a similar set of competitions with winners each day. They were forced to pull the plug fairly early due to side off uneven winds. I think they will resume the heats just started yesterday. Hopefully things will be great today. ikitesurf has Jupiter at 13 mph N gusting to 20 currently.
