Where did you first see kitesurfing and when?
My first memory was this Toyota TV commercial that first aired in 1995. I was still windsurfing at the time but was sufficiently intrigued by the spectacle to look into "kiteskiing." What articles I could find at the time led me to mistakenly believe that it was a downwind sport with lots of walking back upwind involved. That and the ponderous appearance of the control bar kept me in windsurfing for a few more years. I got my first Wikipa in 1998 and never looked back, much. Little did I know that there was to be lots of walking backup wind for me with these classic two line kites! Staying upwind in variable conditions didn't become consistently easy for me until my first four line LEI kites, Naish AR5s in 2000.
