Maybe these guys were cosmonauts rehearsing for post-Spunik flights? Someone put up an incredible video clip of a guy skidding down the Eiger, (remember the Clint Eastwood flick?).

That is incredible, looks like he skidded down the north face of the Eiger? That's about a 6000 ft. drop. Glad he managed to miss all those rock exposures when he touched down. Catching an edge and spinning out doesn't sound like much fun.
