There is a whole psychological cycle that goes with this summer phenomena as well, "unrequited wind lust." You can be jonsing for weeks for a good session but none come along outside work, family obligations. An opportunity comes up, you're rigging up in shot only to be lofted in a regular thermal squall or tropical system thunderstorm gust. Look at that 60 mph+ wind spike on Friday the 13th in the image above. I was almost killed in such a case many years back after a three week wind dry spell, people have broken their necks, suffered permanent mental disability and more. So, its serious stuff in short.

Understand the whys, thanks to Shea's explanation but plan some wind destination time anyway to keep your sanity and good health. Also, the new kite gear has a great low end, just be sure to come in early enough and to not bother going out in the first place in hazardous stuff. The summers down here can go from light to no wind to nuclear winds blasting down in seconds at times with thunderstorms. Here's to the clean strong frontal winds of fall!!!
