Default lofted 1100 ft by Squall and Survived

Hi Rick, just a thought on why the kite did not depower 100 % and lofted him. Kites are designed like a wing, the wind flowing over them creates a high and low pressure area , and causes the kite to go in two directions forward and up. (when the kite is at 12 ). Now when the kite is at twelve or any position it will only fly so far into the wind before it stops, however due to the aerodynamics the kite will still fly outwards from the rider ( up if in the 12 position) and when the wind is strong enough a lofting will still occur no matter how much depower the kite has. Even if the kite is only flying on the 2 front lines , if there is enough wind , movement is going to take place. The safest procedure if one has the time is to flag the kite to one line and be prepared to release everything if that starts to go bad.
