island hopping in bahamas
Next week, my wife and I are flying over to the bahamas on a cessna 182 to marsh harbor. I am bringing my gear and wanted to see where others have gone for some good kiting spots. There are many airports open to private aircraft in the bahamas and all are relatively close so it would be easy for me to make a quick hop somewhere for the day. Anybody familiar with Tahiti beach on elbow cay? Do the winds stay steady or kick up in the afternoon?
Thanks for any info. |

I've been all those islands around marsh harbor: elbow cay , guana cay etc and it was great wind around 25kts every day. Just not at this time of the year. I am under the impression they get the same summer wind pattern as FL. Bring your diving gear , it is beautiful down there!!!

Been over there a few times, a couple of weeks ago most recently. This time of year, I would not normally expect steady wind in the Abacos. I would expect the opposite in fact, near flat calm weather. This year with several wind bearing late season fronts, who knows?
You can see some kiting info and images from some of the islands off Abaco including a shot of Tahiti Beach at: http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=6089&page=8 I wouldn't recommend Tahiti for kiteboarding, maybe windsurfing, for most winds. There is no end of other venues over there however so be of good heart. What you see in the Abacos is reproduced hundreds of times throughout the rest of the archipelago. If you have more specific questions, fire away. I have another site with lots of general info on getting over there and around I will PM to you.
