JP Robinson was just overflying Bimini over the last two days and he brought back some photos. As you can see from the shots, they had WIND! How much would you say JP and from what direction? Also, what is your guess about the swell height, look substantial and well formed. Bimini Sound, the part to the east of the island is calm as usual. Look at the west facing coast of North Bimini, some honking nice waves!
Looking SSW over the western shore of North Bimini Moving a bit further east Heading W just south of Bimini Bay. It's located along the northern portion of Bimini where Standard Properties was located. A bit further west over Bimini Bay. LOOK at those swells! JP says he won't be in town for the event, we'll miss you and your great aerial shots! JP was the guy that flew us over the Harbour Cay for some day kiting. He is a commercial pilot and spends quite a bit of time flying over the islands. More at: http://fksa.org/showthread.php?t=5986 Thanks for the photos JP. Looking forward to the event and grabbing some of those swells. There are square miles of flat water a couple of hundred yards east in Bimini Sound for many of the races/events during Bimini Winds.

Amazing the amount of development on that little strip of island. It wouldn't take much for it to look like Galveston after Ike.

Thanks for putting up the photos Rick and yes there was wind and there were waves, with all the gear we were carrying there was no room for toys, the wind was a steady 15 kts side off shore, a rocky outcropping about a half mile off Bimini Bay was holding up a long, hollow left, about three feet, must have been peeling a hundred yards, all I could do was watch
JP

I just came across some old Bimini clips and thought I would post them here to keep track.
A fairly long 1991 documentary on Bimini, a bit trite in spots but with some interesting views from that time. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=499503268808 A flight on Chalks in 1991 from Miami to Bimini. It captures some of the sensations of this remarkable way of crossing the Straits. A more recent clip from 2011 with an historical overview of Bimini and colorful characters from over the years. Piccolo Pete is interviewed, I can recall hearing him perform at the Complete Angler from the early 1970's and on. An old IGFA clip about tuna fishing in the Biminis The ending of "Silence of the Lambs" with Dr. Lector strolling down an unusually busy street scene in south Alice Town. Here is a collection of 84 early movie clips from all over the Caribbean, not necessarily Bimini but worth looking over. .

Great shot JP! I ran into a small hammerhead off shore of that point at the top of the frame. It is an interesting out of the way island.
