Yeah. I love those guys claiming the impossible. It's why my "no one going upwind in 5 knots" bet will never be lost and why I knew mathematically that Best was totally full of crap with their Hellfish claims. (jumping and riding powered in 6 knots... yeah... right, with 1/3 the power in 10 knots... dream on)

I understand......but
Here is the thing tho...
In sub 15kts I cannot even get on a plane with my board, in 15 solid I cannot stay upwind, I need high teens just to stay upwind... Now, I know my board is killing me but I refuse to accept that the useable range of my gear together is high teens to 20(kts) Also the reason i was going to set it to AC was for greater control in high winds...per the manual Last edited by <jason; 03-05-2008 at 12:34 PM. Believe it, try using even just a basic surfboard if you can't afford a quality lightwind board. The board makes a gigantic difference

Stayed upwind on my 9'6 longboard in 8 knots on a 9m kite just the other day.
Hey it was better than nothing. |

The combined range of your gear is limited 'cuz that board is killing you. Believe it... haven't we already gone over this?
Do you know how much horse power it would take to get a crappy hull (covered in barnacles) out of the water on to a plane and stay on plane? A ton. Same thing with a little board. It takes a ton of juice just to keep it on plane. A larger board is night/day. Takes hardly any juice, especially once you are up and going. I only use one kite these days (a 9m). I can ride it from solid 8 knots to almost 30, by just switching boards. That's no exaggeration, plenty of guys see this all the time. Yes I weigh less than you, but your board is far more important than your kite, as evidenced by Tom and I riding in sub 10 on 9m kites the other night. What size boards do you bigger guys ride?
I demoed a CF 145x49 board was awesome but felt clunky during jibes...well for my skill level anyway... Steve S is gonna let me demo a new FD 140x40 but its only 2cm wider than my board... Though may be enough...? I made a wooden board the other week 140x50 around there somewhere havent used it yet though... |

im 205lbs and i ride a FF 135x40, it doesnt sound big, but due to its outline concave and rocker (all of these factor into the lowend of a board, not just the size) its basicall a one board quiver for me, i also have a CF 145x48, an awsome board, but i never ride it anymore due to the lowend of my flexi...
i can ride in solid 10-11 on my 15m waroo and yes 2cm on the width of a board will make a big difference.....
