Yes, it was great last night. Here I had blown off the prospects earlier in the day and pretty much ignored what was blowing out the window at the office. I even left late looked around and said IT'S BLOWING and hit the beach.

Looking at the windgraph for yesterday it almost linearly went up from about 10 am to 7 pm, peaking with average winds of 17 mph gusting to 20 mph. Outstanding thermal winds!

It hit me last night that the drought we are in along with other conditions may be pretty good for late day thermals if not for our water situation. Normally we would also have those 10 mile high cumulonimbus clouds moving seaward from the everglades but that hasn't started yet either.

Default What are the Summer Conditions for South Florida

Hey Rick,

I haven't posted in a while but it seems that I will be a permanent resident of South Florida (Miami) very soon. I am moving out of the cold northeast and down to Miami. The catch is with spring and summer coming in Cape Cod the winds are usually best upper teens to mid 20's almost everyday. I will be sacrificing that for permanent residence in the sunshine state now but hoping not lose a season does the wind blow to ride at least one or two days a week?

Maybe 10-15kts if real lucky, bring big kites 16M or bigger during summer at best

Looks like the wind just shifted to north in Jupiter. ikitesurf has pretty strong stuff coming through as of 11 am. Average 34, lulls to 29 and gusts to 40 mph out of the north. If it stays north at the coast this will make it side offshore too. Pretty intense conditions, have a care if you head out rigged with the right sized kite.

Thermal-rama!

Did anyone else grab some of this unforecast pretty good southerly breeze this afternoon? It seems to be climbing even now, up to 16 kts. gusting to almost 20? That is what the stationary meter says, I think it may read a bit high. Still, it was a fun unexpected session. Who else got some?

In a "normal" year you should be good to about mid May. Unfortunately, useable wind can go on holiday for sometime after that until the fall. There can be bouts of poorly forecast seabreeze and the odd tropical system with a sufficiently large hole between storm cells to allow a reasonably safe session out through the summer.

Hope to see you there. Currently the windomatic has it at 15 kt. gusting from 14 to 17 kt. I think it might read a bit high and usually think of it in mph instead of kts. Still pretty good for this time of year. The good thermal winds keep coming through.

There are some clouds out west today but they don't look like much on color radar, yet!

Spoke too soon, looks like some heavy weather may be moving to the NE from the everglades. Have a care, the summer thermal cycle may have just started.

I squeezed in a session @ Hammock park in Boynton, from 5:15 till 7pm. I was keeping a close eye on those storms to the NW and when I saw that first bolt of lighting~ I called it quits.

Turns out to have been a good call all around, about 15 minutes after I hit the beach and wrapped it up. The wind died and switch NW as I drove home northward in the rain.

Glad to have caught it while it was there. This work **it really gets in the way sometimes~ LOL

Hope you were able to get U some
