Default Standup PHOTOS & Video Clips

Chuck Patterson posted these on Facebook, titled "Paddling with a teenage whale."
Tommy Donnely SUP Co. paddling with his pal.

The Whale is about 30' long and unfortunately has a couple lines and cork floats tangled around his tail which is probably why it's resting in the harbor.

Chuck added the following on his Facebook page:

"So stoked that the marine mammal specialists from sea world finally cut all the tangeled neting and lines off of the whales's tail and fins. The whale is happy and heading up the coast as we speak. I love happy endings."

More about the assist:

"SeaWorld helps untangle whale off Dana Point

Rescuers try to untangle a rope wrapped around a whale in Dana Point Harbor on Wednesday, May 12, 2010.

A Sea World whale disentanglement team is trying to remove long ropes seen dangling from a gray whale that has been swimming near Dana Point harbor.

A California gray whale — entangled in a straitjacket of rope and netting — was freed Wednesday off Dana Point during an often tense, two-hour rescue operation aided by mammal experts from SeaWorld.

Onshore onlookers cheered after a multiagency team cut the whale loose from more than 100 pounds of rope and fishing net that had prevented it from swimming out of a narrow harbor passage.

The whale, believed to be an 18- to 20-foot-long calf, was later spotted in the open sea. Witnesses said it appeared to be heading north, in sync with springtime migratory patterns."

I think the whale was inside the breakwater, maybe, of the harbor at Dana Point, CA.

In case someone tells you, you ride standup like a pygmy goat, here's a photo to show you what they're talking about.

and a closer view on another board. Wonder if they eat dinged cast off boards?

Went by the beach in Deerfield to checkout the convergence of squalls from land and sea last night. There was a guy doing standup in this dramatic setting. Even better he wasn't struck by lightening. I didn't have a regular camera just an an Evo cellphone,

Here's our boy stroking just outside the sandbar, Hillsboro Light down the coast in the distance.

That squall to seaward became real interesting and threatening as it moved in to shore. It seemed to change every few seconds.

A calm stormy sea?

I tried to capture it with limited success but at one point there were these dark ragged vertical tendrils of cloud hanging down below the base. This thing morphed through many changes of mood short of grabbing and swallowing vessels at sea.

Making north ideally to secure before the fireworks move in close.

Still going off in the east.

Last look to the southeast, weather moving in. Some rain would be good.

"RRD-NISSAN Surfin' Venice

This is an event that aims to bring at least 100 SUP boards to paddle in the historic waters of the canals of Venice and it has the objective to become a fixed annual Meeting of the SUP movement in Italy and all around the world.

Try to imagine 100 SUP departing from Piazzale Tronchetto and paddling along the Grand Canal, accompanied by the crews of the Venetian rowing on historical boats, among a bustle of gondolas, boats and TAXI motor-boats of various kinds."
Continued at: http://insidertrrding.blogspot.com/2...-june-2010.htm

Robby Naish stopped by early for some photo ops and time in the canals.

Used to have a lot of human waste and industrial pollution in Venice Lagoon along with heavy metals, even dioxin in the sediments. Have things changed? Sure hope so.

Robby touring the canals, ideally with no open cuts!

Looks cosy, makes me want to jump in.

Came across Laird Hamilton (6 ft. 3 in.) mobile with board and dog, in toaster-sized car in France? Laird is a big guy too, not sure about the dog however.

All photos from http://www.lairdhamilton.com/

I understand Laird is going to lead the pack yet again, this time with midget skies. In the manner of Shriners on parade with dinky motorbikes, Laird is going to tackle 70 ft. faces with a ski the size of a ladies hat box. Remember you read it here first!

A bonus some video of Laird hitting some big surf off the north shore of Kauai

and in Teapoo

Tom Leeman paddles over a pod of manatee off Delray in calm summer conditions. The GoPro has a look above and below the water at things.

Lost your paddle, have places to go (like crossing the Straits of Florida from the Bahamas?), you've got a day or so to get it done and ... your name is Aguilar, why not have at it prone?

The guys in Antigua grab some swells thrown off by now Hurricane Danielle. We hope it will stay a "fish storm" as with the rest. Good luck to us!

Eli Fuller paddles into a swell. Not sure where this is, Half Moon Bay?

Andre Phillip is out surfing

Dre grabs another one, looking good.
