Talking Moved to Boca

Hi everyone!

I recently moved to Boca from MI.

Have no idea where to kite and would really appreciate some spot info.

I have been kiting for 4 years in flat water on the lakes and have moderate experience in waves from the OBX and PR.

Its been some time since I've been out so a non sketch place would be great!

Also, Ive heard the keys have some great flat water? If so what are some good spots over there!

Thanks in advance and i hope to see some of you on the water!

- Alex

Welcome to Florida Alex! You may have heard we are in the middle of the traditional non-wind season, summer. Then again, it has been windier than most summers to date so who knows. For best results as it has been quite a while since you have been out, when we do have some wind come up you might want to do a sea taxi run out to Stiltsville off Miami, perhaps with an instructor for a refresher. There are virtually no waves there and the spot works with wind from all directions. You could talk to Adventure Sports Miami or Miami Kiteboarding about sea taxi/instructor services.

Palm Beach County is all about waves, generally the further north go the larger they can become. Some of us love the waves and avoid flat water. Still, it is harder to ride in waves initially. So, you might want to get back up to speed in the flat water before tackling conditions off Delray Beach or Boca Raton. Much of South Florida has been under threat of a kiting ban at one time or another. Usually, if there are lifeguard stands present you need to stay a minimum of 50 yards offshore at all times with a kite up. Routine landing on the beach in guarded areas isn't permitted either. Delray has over a mile of private beach south of Casurina Road and north of Linton Blvd. where kiting might be conducted well away from guarded beaches and bystanders on the beach and in the shallows. This is much larger than any launch in Boca Raton and there are no exposed rock outcrops along most of the beach there unlike some areas in Boca. If you search this site for Islamorada, Stilsville, Delray, Pompano, Boca Raton, you will find a ton of information. Please read them over and come back with specific questions. There is some good information about local weather including some important precautions at:

Good winds!
