Default Petition for access: Jones Beach, NY

Please be advised that kiteboarders in the NY area have started a petition for access to Jones Beach State Park ("Jones Beach"), Long Island.

Jones Beach is on a narrow barrier island, and stretches from the bayside across to the oceanside. The oceanside offers waves and, only steps away, the bayside offers miles of flat shallows.

Park authorities have recently taken the position that kiteboarding is not permitted at Jones Beach. The Petition requests access at defined launch areas on the bayside and oceanside. The goal is to collect 800 signatures.

Below please find a link to the Petition for your consideration:

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

Thx,
JK

We spoke by phone. It sounds like the ban is arbitrary. A good show of support through the petition, presenting an organized front of local kiters with some basic rules to the authorities will hopefully see this situation turned around.

Access is important to kiters in general, wherever it is threatened. Please support the folks in Long Island by signing the petition.

There was no incident that cause the issue. They seem to have closed access as a precaution as they saw more and more of us launching there. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

Thanks for the support and please keep the signatures coming.

Thank you RickI for the support!
You probably have more info about the ban than I am able to provide.

The goal is 800 signatures this week and to meet with the Parks Dept.

Thanks to all!

Thank you all for the support. We have reached out goal of 800 signatures. But the more the better, if we can hit 1000 thats a powerful statement. Please keep them coming.
