Where to Kite Buggy?
A Fort DeSoto park employee told me that kite buggies are not permitted on Big Beach. It's a great location, expecially this time of year (no people), and I've seen others buggying there. I couldn't find a rule, unless a buggy is considered a "vehicle", which is of course prohibited on the beach. I didn't get the feeling that the park employee knew exactly what I was carrying back from the beach, so it was probably easiest for him to say "not allowed".
Does any one know where to kite buggy in the Tampa Bay/Central Florida area? Also, any instructive experiences at Fort DeSoto? Thanks for the input. |

You can't kite buggy in Ft. DeSoto, is my understanding. I am surprised you saw another buggy in there.
If in doubt, just go into the ranger station and ask for Jim Wilson. He's a nice guy, and will give you the most accurate answer. Probably the best local spot for kite buggying is Treasure Island. They have a kitebuggy and kite club, Treasure Island Sport Kite Klub, that has been meeting out there every Sunday for practically ever. I think that might be the only local beach that buggying is allowed on. They worked out an agreement with TI and have an area that they buggy in. It's a nice, large area. It's best after it rains, 'cuz the sand gets compacted. You will be able to meet a bunch of local buggiers out there. Here is a link. http://www.tiskk.org/ |

Those things are a blast on hard pack sand.
I use to ride all the time in St. Augustine. Once it hit 12 knots, it was "game on" with a 9m Waroo. The phone number for the ranger station is 727.582.2267 |

Cody, hit me up if you go to Treasure Island. I live just south of the Bilmar and would love to try the buggy and board on the sand.
