Default Alabama Kiting?

Hey guys, I am taking a roadtrip which will have me passing through the panhandle and Alabama coastal areas. Anyone have any launch info on these areas? I have a friend in Panama City who kites, so that area is covered, but any info on the more rural areas would be appreciated.
I will also have the new 2008 Freak Dog kites available for demo. These kites are made in the D.R., by kiters- for kiters. Drop me a line or call me if you wanna try them.

Talk to some of the shops in the Panhandle. They are tuned into launches from Florida over to LA. Never been there myself, sounds like Raul has though.

well, in alabama you have the bay as soon as you cross over from pensacola FL . but no real gulf beaches ( you will need a boat ). Actually you are much better off in the biloxi to gulfport MS area since there you have wide open gulf sandy beaches

You have some areas south of mobile on dauphin island. it is gulf riding, but the water is not as pretty as the panhandle of fl. i know of a few guys who kite over there regularly, i believe they live in orange beach and kite there often. i'll see what i can do to get you a contact. before you even get to the alabama line, you can kite some beautiful beaches in navarre, both gulf and bay riding, pensacola beach for gulf and bay, and some other flatwater secret spots in pensacola. check out google earth for more geographic data, but you can kite all along highway 98!!!

Thumbs up Rename thread - Alabama Kiting!

Kiting on the AL Gulf coast is awesome. There are 30+ miles of Gulf beaches on the East side of Mobile Bay in Alabama. Really anywhere along there is good for any E->WSW winds, but two mentionable spots with nice wide beaches are east of Perdio Pass and the Gulf Shores State Park pavilion. On the North cold/cool front days, there is one spot which is hands down better than any other...

If you happen to be in town one of these days send me a PM and I'll be happy to give you my contact info. We mostly do downwinders. Goes without saying, but please respect beachgoers and surfers. Alabama is not a kiting destination, but we have lots of fun.

My most used kite is a 16m bow. Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer.
