Default DAY II - CKA Delray Event in Photos!

Click photo for full sized image

Back to Delray Beach and Day II of the CKA competition. A weak cold front has been moving in since the wind clocked inland yesterday. Today, the wind was offshore much of the day. Not good for kiting but just right for other activities.

Standup paddle surfing or strandup is mighty fine in light winds. Flat water, this is typical of an approaching cold front, light and offshore winds. The wind sweeps clockwise with the passage of fronts. Thought it might pass through later on today bringing stronger side onshore winds. Question was, when?

Guys also just hung out at the beach, wind waiting

Alex, Hamish and Nicci play with the Grinch, rider wench

Hamish pops off

Alex goes down hard, injurying his arm. Hope nothing is messed up too badly. Not the best setup location, safety gear, etc..

I've heard of the Grinch that stole Christmas but failed to hear about the one that stole balance? So, the folks hung out, doing standup, grinching and eating the odd sand pie.

Comparing tatoos. Mike's famous needlework shown along Jessie's more recent carving.

The day eased on and Neil officiated the closing ceremonies, shown here with the three winners from yesterday's riding contest. That is Kevin, Matt and Joe from left to right. Think Will had to be somewhere else on Sunday.

The results!

Raffle time, Neil with able assistance from Lynn U students spins out the prizes.

So, the event is a wrap, prizes and awards are conveyed ... THEN the wind arrives. It came at around 3:30 pm and goes side to side on to side off for about two hours. It ranged from 12 kts. to over 20 kts. for this short period. Cold fronts. Neil turned up the tunes and opened things up for a free ride session. Demian is the first out!

Stewie ripping and showing great form on his strapless board

Jessie's up

It was in the 60's later in the day and a bit nippy. Some just ignored it and hit the water in a tee shirt. Demian was out for a couple of hours in just baggies. Tough SA guys.

Hey Mikey, the boarding contest ended yesterday, no more pirating vessels, ok?

Getting some nice air!

Cold fronts as they move the wind from NW to N can generate some nice swells. You could see them form and march further from shore as the wind clocked offshore.

Delray Ocean Rescue was a big help in making this event possible. Eric is shown here, he kites too and is a regular at Delray Kitebeach.

Stacey from Best heads out

Hamish was practicing jumps and board off moves for hours. Lots of dedication there.

Wasup?!

Just some nice conditions, thought Elvis got lofted or something?

Stacey throws one. She was the first woman to kite from Florida to the Bahamas in Neil's famous race a couple of years back.

Billie, father of the "Billie Bar" rips along

Part of the reason Matt does so well in comp's, is his wipeout stare. He just stares ... and they wipeout!

Kevin was ripping all over the place on a skimboard, looking good

Sunset's coming, must be quiting time

Thanks to the CKA and all the sponsors and volunteers for making this event possible! Hope to see you again next year.
