Arrow The proverbial question - WHO Is fastest under sail?

"Kite vs Moth vs 49er"

What is a "Moth" anyway aside from pretty freaking bizarre?!

This is what Wikipedia has to say:

"The Moth Class is the name for a small development class sailing dinghy. There are three "species" of moths currently in existence: the International Moth, a fast sailing hydrofoil dinghy with liberal restrictions; the Classic Moth, a traditional dinghy with tighter restrictions; and the British Moth, a one design sailboat similar to those sailed in the 1930s."

Foiled again, looks fun though!

How about '49'ers, weren't they in a goldrush or something?

Wikipedia to the rescue again:

"The 49er is a newer one-design class of small sailing dinghy. It is a double handed twin trapeze boat, meaning that it is sailed by a helm and a crew, the helm making many tactical decisions, as well as steering, and the crew doing most of the sail control. The design, by Julian Bethwaite, the son of Frank Bethwaite, (the designer of the popular Tasar and Laser 2 classes), is revolutionary. The boat is experiencing an increase in popularity due to its selection as an Olympic class starting with the Sydney Olympics of 2000. The boat has recently received a new rig design, including a larger fully carbon mast and square top mainsail."

A gaggle of 49ers

That's a lot of sail for a small vessel
http://en.beijing2008.cn/cptvenues/v...14222652.shtml

So, these two vessels vs. Damien Leroy on a Cabrinha kite and directional raceboard. Need to get the gear specifics and put them up.

Damo showing he doesn't even need a kiteboard, just a good foot size?

So here's the video, wonder how it will end???

Race on!

Has anyone on here ever sailed a Moth? Looks like a windsurfer on hydrofoils? Used to be a guy at Rickenbacker who sailed a homemade windsurfer with a foil. He said it didn't really turn, looks like this one doesn't have that problem.

A post race interview.

Just got some additional details about gear from Kent Marinkovic who was also there kiting along in the race.

Damo was “testing” a Cabrinha custom race kite in a 13 meter size. Garry Menk and I were both on Crossbow 13 m kites, his a 2011 and mine a 2010.

We were all using Alex Aguera race boards in various new sizes ranging from the new 70 cm maximum to last year’s 59 cm boards. Damo is pretty hard to beat on any course, on a short course he is impossible to beat as his board skills are top notch. Tons of fun!!!

I don't understand what you are doing..

Are you trying to rebuild cross references in google's search engine?

Those three posts (to yourself?) are full of keywords.

Ah yeah I get it now.

If I had the information all at one time, it all would have gone up at one time. It came at three separate times, ergo ... Lighten up Tom, no google conspiracies here or obsession with key words either. It is just how it came out.
