Default WWII Mine Threatens Port Everglades, A (Real) Late Naval Offensive?

What may be a WWII naval contact mine has been sighted off Dania Beach resulting in the closure of John U. Lloyd Park pending NAVY personnel recovery the object. I recall one of these floated ashore another time within the last ten years near Port Everglades.

"DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) – The beach at John U. Lloyd State Park was evacuated Thursday afternoon after a mysterious object was found floating in the ocean about a mile offshore. Nobody is sure what it is, but it looks all the world like a mine used to attack harbors during World War II.

The circular, knobby object, with what appears to be a cable or a tether attached, was found shortly after 1 p.m. and reported to the Coast Guard, which then contacted the Broward Sheriff’s Office. As the Coast Guard worked to keep boaters away from the unidentified object, BSO closed the state park beach on the off chance the object packed an explosive punch."
