Irma - Celebration of Life Memorial Service

Irma Harris' Memorial Service happens tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 3 to 6 pm+ near the south jetty of Ft. Pierce Inlet.
Please bring your kitesurfing kites, we'll inflate them on the beach as a tribute to Irma, wind or no.

Time: 3:00pm -5pm

Everyone please join us as we gather together to celebrate the life of Irma Harris. There will be a buffet of food provided at the
inside bar of the Inlet restaurant, live music and a slide show will be presented inside the Inlet restaurant to share in the memories
of Irma's life and how passionately she lived it.

5:00pm to 5:30pm
We encourage anyone who wants to share a memory or an experience they had with Irma out under one of the memorial tents
we will have set up on the beach at this time.

Weather permitting we will release Irma's ashes into the ocean.
We will supply all of you with a flower,
and ask you to line up along the ocean shoreline to release the flowers into the water as we paddle her ashes out off the shoreline.
(Paddling out is optional.. I just know Irma has always loved when she saw paddle out ceremonies done for surfers..so we
plan to do it for her)

For all of you who knew Irma through kiting, we are asking you to bring your kites and blow them up as a tribute to Irma ..wind
or no wind..to see a beautiful bouquet of kites is something she would absolutely love.






I came across this photo from 14 years ago titled "Irma Charges." I recall the day off Bathtub Reef on South Hutchinson Island. Winds were strong into the high 30 mph range. Irma was out there shredding hard in strong conditions with very early kite gear.


So come out and celebrate with us Irma's love for the ocean, kiting, fishing , diving and just staying salty yet ever so sweet.

Celebrating the life and times of Irma Harris

A buffet was provided to friends at the Celebration.



Neil Hutchinson, Irma's longtime good friend and colleague at Slingshot Kiteboarding, Christine (CJ) and her husband Dustin Sleichter. Christine and Irma were best friends for many years, she worked very hard pulling the Celebration together as a tribute.

Demian Thomas came all the way in from Seattle to attend Irma's celebration. He was a regular of the Ft. Lauderdale kiting crew along with Hamish McDonald for many years.















Jesse had a good idea which I learned of from Neil to collect a bunch of the early kiters from South Florida and other areas for a group photo. These are the guys who started in the late 1990's, early 2000's and helped to get the sport going.

The numerous attendees collect near the water for the paddle out, spreading of Irma's ashes at sea, spreading of flowers and prayers for our friend.

So many friends attend and still more wrote in saying that would have made it from distant places if they could have.






We had excellent weather for the day
