Looks like there may be useable wind on Saturday. That would be great. Should be a fun event!

what kind of race are you doing? Long dist, etc.? Will you be starting from a boat, beach, etc.? Although i prefer to course races, you might be benefited by doing reaching races like we tried to do last time. This would allow most riders to finish the race.

... i just checked the forecast and it does look ok. if the wind is out of the east, you could probably run a very nice, easy race that would be visually nice for spectators.

I'd do a shallow water start via horn. All riders standing on the sand bar running from East to West. You could send your pontoon boat down to the start of Bill Baggs park, some where around the start of the swim marks. The boat could either be positioned just outside of the swim marks if the wind is East or farther out to sea if it is NE to make for a better reaching let. I'd do a two lap race with racers starting at Crandon and racing around the boat by Bill Baggs and back around a flag in the water at Crandon. Two laps would only be 10 miles and we wouldn't risk any open water like going around the light house. At 20 knots of speed the event would be over in very little time and the racers could be seen 2 times by all beach goers.

This would be easy to run and score with very little support. what do you think?

attached is the image of the course that I proposed. this should be very easy for everyone to get around and twin tips will work as well as directional boards.

Start: between flag and red bull mark. no riders on boards. a 1 min. sequence will be used and all go. anyone on their board before the start horn will be dsq.

Mark 1: MKB Boat
Riders will reach around the MKB Boat, leaving the boat to starboard. ie. jibe the boat. ie. enter from the east and exit to the west.

Mark 2: Red Bull Mark
Riders will reach around the RB Mark, entering from the east and exiting to the west.

Mark 3: Same as Mark 1... yup, the boat again.

Finish: between the starting flag and a small mark located 15 yards to the east of the starting flag. This is very near the beach and allows proper scoring of the race.

The race will likely be less than 10 miles and should take less than 25 minutes for the first finishers. The course may be shortened or lengthened depending on wind conditions and number of riders.

Multiple races may be run. If so, low point scoring will be implemented. ie. 1 pt. for 1st, 2 pt. for 2nd, etc. add the scores and riders with the lowest points win.

Lots of great ideas Kent! It is a great venue for some nice scenic short baseline distance runs to be sure. Christophe and Agata what do you think?

The forecast has been holding pretty much for the last couple of days. Looks rideable and FUN! Hope to see folks down there tomorrow. Remember, if you are going to compete, you need to email Agata/Christophe, pronto!

Here's the southern zone forecast for the area:

"Tonight...Northeast winds 15 to 20 knots...decreasing to near 15 knots late. Seas beyond the reef 4 to 6 feet...except higher in the gulf stream. Seas inside the reef 2 to 3 feet. Nearshore waters choppy...becoming a moderate chop.

Saturday...Northeast to east winds near 15 knots. Seas beyond the reef 3 to 5 feet...except higher in the gulf stream. Seas inside the reef around 2 feet. Nearshore waters a moderate chop.

Saturday Night...East winds near 15 knots...becoming northeast late. Seas beyond the reef 3 to 5 feet...except higher in the gulf stream. Seas inside the reef around 2 feet. Nearshore waters a moderate chop.

Sunday...North to northeast winds near 15 knots...increasing to 15 to 20 knots. Seas beyond the reef 4 to 6 feet...except higher in the gulf stream. Seas inside the reef 2 to 3 feet. Nearshore waters a moderate chop...becoming choppy. Isolated showers." The northern zone forecast is about 5 kts. less as is often the case.

I understand ASM is bringing out the Hobie Wunder Slider to the event. Heads up, if you want to hit the slider, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A HELMET ON. No exceptions. So, bring your lids.

Ok... talked to Neil and MKB. Please get to the event early as the riders meeting for the race will be at 9:30 a.m. sharp. It would be best if you had your kites ready before the meeting as we are trying to get the first race off by 10 a.m.

Each course will be approximately 7-8 miles and take around 20-25 mins to finish.

We are going for 2 races, but if we have a chance to get 3 will do it.

The schedule will change, but I'm generally looking at this:

8:30-9:30 regristration
9:30 riders meeting for race
10 first race
10:45 second race
11:30 third race (wind dependent as the priority is getting the slider event off in good breeze)

all races count and it's low point scoring.

PS. it's an easy course so relax and give a go.
