Unless you crave waves.

Still, it is mighty nice down there for lots of other reasons including typically stronger wind. Oh, lots of flat water too.

Wind is easing to 15 kts. per the forecast and it looks like it will be wet if they're accurate. Watchout for squalls.

Tonight...East to southeast winds 15 to 20 knots. Seas beyond the reef 4 to 6 feet. Seas inside the reef 2 to 3 feet. Nearshore waters choppy. Scattered showers.

Sunday...East winds near 15 knots. Seas beyond the reef 3 to 5 feet...except higher in the gulf stream. Seas inside the reef around 2 feet. Nearshore waters a moderate chop. Numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms.

So I have been to all the hotspots in the continental US.

S. Padre
Outerbanks
Gorge

Nothing comes close to the keys for the beauty, water clarity, steady wind, and ultimate flat water experience. Spring is the best time and Easterly winds are where its at. I progressed more in 2 days than any other 2 days on the water. I have been riding for 5 years.

Found some clean hotels for 65 a night. Can't beat it and the locals are as friendly as they come.

I've been to Puerto Rico, Mexico & Hawaii, all nice spots. However, my favorite is Florida. We truly have some great locations....Gulf Coast, East Coast & of course the Keys.

Head to the Keys six or more times a year myself for a long time. Really like it down there. It is flat though, can put you at risk of FWN. That is if you are susceptible to it.

FWN = flat water narcolepsy

If you are working on a lot of tricks, it can be just the ticket though. Waves can easily trip you up and slow down your progression. If you want to wave sail, could be a sleepy experience. Still, variety in all things, right? A dose of flat water riding in the Keys is a welcome change even from the waves at times. For diving, flat water is the way to go yet again.

Thanks a lot Noel, I will probably stay in one of these 2 motels.
Anne's beach seems a great spot on east winds.

With west wind, do you know what are the best spots around Islamorada ?
