Jayson put this together last year..
http://www.fksa.org/showthread.php?t=2562 i chose a bad board last year and had to pull out of the race early.. i thought it would handle the waves better than my TT.. but i was very very wrong and ended up not able to make upwind progress ... ugh. |

looks like a hydrofoil... so we are going to have speed races? That would be cool. I have actually been planning a hydrofoil myself... I have the mig welder and the vacuum table right here

I cleared my travel schedule for November.
I missed last years race. I was home all month except for day of the race. Not this year. Bring on a NorthWest wind!!!!!! At least I made the pre-party.

twas an ancient long SS board.. thought it would cruise the surf with ease and fly upwind... but the wind was so onshore and so powerful that I was unable to make upwind headway.. my fault for not putting it to a real test prior to the race. i was seriously bummed. was so stoked for the race.. blah..
oh well.. next time. |

The race...
Speed trials are great and all and seem to be the latest fad but I agree with Steve-O, the Kitemasters race started as a downwinder and it would be a shame to see it turn into an entirely different beast.
I believe the majority of the locals would probably like to see another downwind race...because that is what the Kitemasters race is all about and would be the most fun for most of us to enter...not even to try and win but to try and push ourselves and gain a sense of accomplishment. God knows the Caladesi Queen wants another crack at it!!! Also, who (in the way of spectators) wants to see a bunch of kiters get clocked by a wave runner one by one? 50-100 kites all taking off from the beach at once is quite a sight on the other hand...

The first Kitmasters Race had 2 parts to it.
Border Cross held in 40 - 50 mph winds. Truely one insane competition Downwinder: Gandy to the Skyway, this was a great run for all who entered. No reason why we can't put together another 2 part Kite Masters Race.
