Default "Take The Tech Out" Light Wind Test

"TAKE THE TECH OUT” LIGHT WIND KITE TEST

Where: Light Wind Capital San Diego, CA/Silver Strand
When: July 10-12, 2005, 11a for as long as the wind blows!

Ryan and I were recently going through a bunch of magazines comparing strengths and weaknesses. Several product descriptions really confused us. They were so teched out that we just looked at each other with puzzled expressions. On one particularly confusing description, we asked each other simultaneously if the other got it. Then we burst out laughing. And so, the “Take the Tech Out” Testing concept was born.

Bruno Legaignoix testing early prototypes of the LEI on water. He is sporting his 250 cm "micro" control bar.

Our first test will be light wind kites. The Kiteboarder and kiteforum.com has invited all manufacturers to participate if they have big kites. No prototypes will be allowed unless they are the spec that is going into production. We have chosen pre-selected everyday riders of various weights, riding levels and styles and are giving them 20 to 25m kites to test. We will involve local kite businesses to help and test as well. Testers will each judge the kites on the same criteria, but the difference is results will be more weighted toward what works for the INDIVIDUAL based on the different attributes of each kite and what FELT the best to them. Riders will also use their own light wind boards so they only have one new variable. Bars will be stock and lines 27m. Riders will judge kites in the following areas:

-low end
-high end
-upwind
-lift
-hangtime
- turning speed
-bar pressure
-relaunch

Bruno getting ready to launch one for record air on the snow! It's coming, wait, wait ...

The test results from the “Take the Tech Out” Light Wind Kite Test will be available with the release of the next Kiteboarder Magazine and on kiteforum.com. This will be in early August. In the meantime, all updates concerning this event will be posted on kiteforum.com

Look for more TAKE THE TECH OUT testing from The Kiteboarder and kiteforum.com!
