Default Maui, Oh my Gosh !!!!

Hi Guys, I just wanted to touch bases between my kite sessions. Of course as soon as we landed I was more worried to look at the palm trees outside than my luggage. We landed on Monday afternoon and the wind was 20k + but of course I couldn`t drop everything there and go for a quick session so I decided to let it go and head to Kihei, 20min drive from KiteBeach. Tuesday I definitely had to kite so we went down to KiteBeach again, the wind was coming in ON/OFF so I decided to ask a local instructor how was the best way to launch....and of course I made a little mess, I was able to get my 7m Halo inverted. I must say that the pressure was ON, kiting in Maui for the first time, I felt all the local`s eyes on, especially because I didn`t see any Halo here !! I waited a little bit and tried again, this time went definitely better, you have to bodydrag a bit out where the wind is clearer. You guys think that our cold fronts are gusty, that is nothing !!! Anyway, I was able to have some fun without trying anything crazy, especially because those guys were pulling off handle passes and other tricks that I could not even understand. Ah, I forgot that some people were out on 5m kite !!! It says it all. Today quick session and it`s definitely getting better, I`m getting used to the conditions........That`s it for now but will keep you posted.

take care

Coming from 15- 20 knots, mostly 15 and having to ride
In 20+ and gusty must be freaky, conditions like that
It’s going to take a while to get use to. 5m kites, dang! we
can’t even teach here with that size and pulling handle passes, wow!
that have to be a sight to see. Metteo, you have to watch
these guys and learn a new trick so you can come here
and I can learn it from you ;-). The other day me and Mark
went out in 20 gusty up to 28, we set up his C bow 12m(go slow bend)
and took turns, Mark went out first and he had a blast
from the way he was riding it didn’t look that windy, but then
I went out, I got of some good airs and even better spills, but then the
wind picked up to over 30 and I tried to come in but couldn’t
stay up wind and was drafting away from Go slow bend, so I tried
pulling the safety and the line snapped in half and the Crossbow few
upside down for about 50- 100 yards before it fell into the water
Mark and another guy drove down to Goodmans bay to get the kite
that was a crazy day for real, from how the Crossbow was flying towards Goodmans
I was sure it was going to fly into the streets or golf course ;-). Metteo! You
was right about needing a 16 C bow and a 9m if I had a 9m I was
going to kool and to think I was contemplating to set up the 16m.
When do you get back into town, Metteo? and don’t forget take
some pics. Ride hard but safe, dude!!!

Yesterday was crazy gusty, 25k + but very very gusty. I didn`t really enjoy my session. The biggest kite was a 10m Vegas but the guy must have been at least 220p. Hope that today is much better. The Crossbow 7m seems to be kite here....they are all over !! We are back on 21st.

ciao

Just a little update: Friday was a perfect 20k session with 3-5ft waves. I saw the Cabrinha Crew but unfortunately they weren`t kiting.
Saturday was a bit sketchy but hey, once you are out there is really fun. I saw a turtle chilling between the waves !!! The wind is always very strong; 2/3 are flat kites and the few C are between 7 and 9m !!! I`m getting used to my 7m now and don`t know how my 12 feels like anymore !!!

Hope you guys are OK

take care

Sorry to rub it in again but I`m having a great time here !!! Yesterday and today the wind was a bit weaker or should I say less gustier. I was still out on my 7m all the time and still the biggest kite was a 9m. The swell has gone, maybe there was 2-3 ft but still fun to play with. I haven`t seen any pros yet, I guess they show up when is 30k + !!!! A lot of kite loops though, it seems to be the "move" now !!

Let me know if you want me to pick up one of the local T-shirt for you (Maui Built, Local Motion, etc...).

take care.

I’m jealous, the wind hasn’t and from the future forecast
Isn’t going to be good, better ride long and hard,
cause, your coming home to crap. Did you learn any
new moves yet? ya better not come here and not have
any new moves for me to copy ;-) . I would like some
Cabrinha shirts if they have any, what are there prices and
sizes?

Time to pack and leave the beautiful island of Maui. It`s has been another couple of great days, wind was still blowing nicely (20K) and still out on my 7m. I haven`t practised anything yet but I have seen a lot of new moves...and can`t wait to try them out in BH.

We`ll be leaving tomorrow, if I can I`ll pick up a Cabrinha T for you.

I`ll see you home
