A different kind of person fights for access his way
We are getting caught up in access issues, with cause sad to say, and there is still important ground to cover. ASM put this video up and I was struck by it at several levels.
Here is a guy, Michael, marooned in his seat through major loss of leg function. He might just stay that way, growing overweight and disconsolate in his chair as life eases on. However through choice, exertion and crawling through the dirt and sand, he goes far beyond it. He earns his access each day he laboriously loads up, rolls down the beach and into the surf. He needs the release of the ocean and gets there independently by his own hand. He's an individual, one we can admire, harming no one but striving far beyond his limitations to be in the ocean. He's not there to show off but just to enjoy the freedom and stoke the sea brings in abundance. Surfing brings him new life and mobility lost on land but found again in the sea. He earns it and my respect. Enjoy your time out there Michael.

Very moving and insperational. The human will is a powerful thing and sadly untapped by most people.

Open Roads
The ocean gives what only the ocean can give, we know the feeling out there when we kite. Our balance is created too out there.
His sheer willpower to achieve, is a sign for us that we must acknowledge and protect. Let no one create road blocks for this kind of achievement, beach access should always be there and be protected. |

Sure does give a good example of what a person is capable of. Best part, he achieves it and solo, must make it even better.
