Default Rip Current Video

I've had the privilege of working with some rip current experts lately and wanted to pass on some information to the kiting community.

Dr. Rob Brander is a super cool guy from Australia who is really passionate about educating as many people as possible about beach safety. This includes swimming, surfing and kiting.

he was nice enough to give me some of his footage for a video.

You can find all sorts of great info on his site here,

Cool video but I'm not sure it shows a rip current. What it shows to me is a channel of deeper water with shallow water on both sides. The water can't go back out over the sandbar so it goes thru the channel. That doesn't mean there is a rip current there.

There's a sandbar, waves, apparent cut through the sand bar for wave surcharged water to escape through. Look over the following article and see if you think there are rips there or not. Doesn't take much. Looks like the area near Queenscliff outside Sydney, Australia.
