Virginia Key Alert
This just in from Lonny via Kent:
Your Participation is vital for this meeting! Virginia Key Preservation Needs Y.O.U. There will be a very important planning meeting for VIRGINIA KEY, the 1,000 acre barrier island off the Rickenbacker Causeway, on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. What is so special about Virginia Key? The entire island is publicly owned. It's the last, largest remaining undeveloped waterfront land in the City of Miami. It's green and full of wildlife. It's a great place to swim, sail row, fish, hike, bike, watch the sunsets and sunrises, picnic, play ball with your kids, fly a kite or just enjoy the natural beauty of our surroundings. It's time to stand up for Virginia Key. Come to the City of Miami's public planning meeting: When & Where: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2007 La Salle High School (Cafeteria), 3601 South Miami Avenue, Miami For more information on the Virginia Key Master Plan, including proposals presented at the first public meeting held March 29, go to: http://www.edsaplan.com/Virginia_Key/home.html DON'T LET COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT DESTROY THIS FRAGILE, WILD AND GREEN ISLAND. Business as Usual in Miami
It’s horrible to say this but it’s true.
The fate of Virginia Key has already been decided when the City of Miami ran out of space to put up more mega condo buildings on the waterfront. Wait a minute! Don’t we have water restrictions now? Boy I’m glad all those NEW mega condo buildings are empty right now. I’d hate to see what would happen if they were occupied. Whew! No amount of protesting is going to help. Hasn’t anybody noticed how the Miami Marine Stadium (probably the only one of it’s kind in this country) has been left to rot since Andrew? These clowns (read city commission) have already finalized what they want to do there. It’s just a matter of time till we get to see the same type of review meeting called to review the proposed “Village of Mathison Hammocks”. Opps………..Did I say that? I hope someone finds another indian artifact on that land soon. Rick. I'll be there. Can you get in touch with Miami Chapter Surfrider Foundation? |
