Default 2011 Miami Kite Masters In Photos

A key aspect of wind dependent sports is the necessity of wind! 2011 will go down as one of the lighter, wind seasons in memory. Despite calm wind folks showed up for both days of these years Kiteboard Masters at Crandon Park in Miami, FL. There was fun to be had, friends to see, SUP races to be run and wind waiting to be done! Here are some views from Sunday.

Paddling around as Kent and Damo rig up some large Cabrinha prototype kites.

Stopping by the Miami Kiteboarding shop on the beach to say hello to Brandon and crew.

Finding shade where you can, it is spring but feels like summer at this point.

Kent rigs, Nelson shoot and Bela wind waits.

Neil isn't waiting, well actually he is taking his gear to the car. This was later in the afternoon at this point.

Brian with Kiteworld Magazine, Sean Buell and Carlos hangout.

I went down to shoot a kiting event and was happy to see a guy get up and riding. It was a short ride still Damo was up! Bela had a wind meter was reporting nuking puffs ranging from 4.2 to 7.3 mph in extreme gusts.

I spoke to Kent while we were wind waiting about what new developments he sees coming to kiting gear in the near future.

Damo is riding as flat as he can to build momentum and reduce needed kite power to stay up.

Then the wind drops and so does Damo.

Neil and Christophe with Charlotte Consorti all the way from France. Charlotte is a well known pro kiter from across the pond. If you keep thinking you've seen her somewhere before, you may well have.http://charlotteconsorti.fr/

Here's Charlotte!

Usually there are dozens of kites to navigate through on the beach at the Masters, not this year!

They had the awards for the SUP races held on Saturday. Neil and Christophe are going to still hold the distance race to Fowey Light, wind willing, so stay tuned. If you have already paid your registration you're in for this race. Come on wind!

Garry Menk with Jimmy Lewis boards hands out the awards.

See you next time!

We are usually a bit luckier with the wind, be sure to checkout images from past years from this great event at: http://fksa.org/forumdisplay.php?f=111
