Gorge guy visits Naples..local info Pah-leeese
Hey there,
My name is Brian and I am heading to Naples next week for 10-days of warm sunshine. I'm from Portland, OR so my local KB haunts are the Gorge and the Pacific coast, both of which have water that is beyond your belief cold . I've been kiting for 4 years. ANYWAYS.. I have been trying to get some info on riding spots in and around naples and botht he SWfloridakite forum and ikitesurf have provided little info. I don't want to be "that guy" that just unfolds his kite where he isn't supposed to. As I understand, you guys have rules and what not at your beaches, LOL. Any information will be greatly appreciated and if anyone that wants to hook up and hit the water next week will be payed back in spades if they make it out to the Gorge. Just for giggles.. and some VERY cool pictures.. here is our local forum.\ nwkite.com Cheers. Brian aka monkeyboy |

Hello Brian,
Enrique is a excellent source of info for the SW coast. He lives and rides there and more importantly is directly involved in trying to preserve access there. Naples can have a narrow beach with a lot of bystanders. You want to try to avoid crowds and to launch and get beyond a 100 yds. from shore before riding north and south in some cases. You folks have a nice site in the Gorge to go with all that strong wind you have no doubt. Have a good visit and consider traveling around a bit to see more of what Florida has to offer for varied riding conditions while you are here. Thanks for the tips. I figured that the beaches would be crowded. Access issues have got to be a bummer. We have allot of newbs who see everyone kiting and then just go and buy some gear but then again, there are very few swimmers where we typically kite.
If you get a chance, check out our forum, we are throwing a big winter party and there is a photo contest. The photos are posted on the forum...always nice to have proffesional photographers hanging around the launch sites Looking forward to the gunshine state!!! monkeyboy |
