Default Wakeboards

My first board for kitesurfing was a Liquid Force wakeboard. It was cool for just messing around in the ocean, goofing around in the waves, however, it really sucked trying to edge and stay up-wind... just my 2 and a half cents.

He should go to a surf shop and buy a surfboard then. From what I read, I got the feeling that he was looking for a twin tip that was good in the surf and allowed him to ride waves while having a kite in the sky...my bad.

If you want my opinion, give me a call, or pick Mike Hall's brain. He rides skimboards and surfboards in the surf probably more than anyone around here. He does so strapless but he could probably give you some insight on the skimboard feel in the waves. Hope that helps.

Whoops just noticed you said you don't really want a surfboard.

But I still think what you want is one of these:

FWIW we do actually get waves often here on the gulf coast... when I was surfing it was easy for me to surf three or four times a month during the season, sometimes more. You have to pay attention to the reports and weather more than you do with kiteboarding... and if you know how to pick the correct spot, the waves are pretty good and clean (for the gulf). However the surfers will not be happy to see you on the inside there because those spots are typically crowded... but riding on the outside is a good option... there are some bigger and cleaner waves out there that are difficult to paddle into... so the surfers can't catch them out there (and trust me they wish they could).

Default Ug

I saw a Underground Firebird on Ikite for sale. I think the guy wanted 350, and looks like it was in great shape. I thought about buying it, but I am looking to get some new kites first.

Check these out too, both pretty cheap.

Oh right, definitely. Thats why kiteboarding replaced surfing so quickly (for me).... the good waves sometimes only lasted a few hours before the tide changed but good wind can last days at a time. And then of course there is the fact that you are out there for hours and only get 10 minutes of actual riding time. Good exercise and scenery though.
