Just got back from Kite Beach
Been gone the last couple weeks, went to the D.R. for a surf trip with some friends. We stayed in cabarete for about 6 days and I got to take the rest of of my lessons on kite beach. I'm finally up and riding!!! Kite beach was amazing....great sideshore winds everyday and probably 40 kites up at all times by around 1:30pm. I learned on the new waroo bow kite. It was the first time I have had a chance to fly the bows and I must say, they are badass. Looking forward to seeing you guys out there when the winds cooperate with my 12m! Next goal is to pick up a 15/16m bow so I can ride more often.

man no replies...this hurts me guys. I'll reply to myself then...I'm getting all of my pictures developed now and I'll have them up so you guys can check out the kiting and scenery at kite beach. I took lessons at Laurel Eastmans, def. a nice operation with decent prices.

Hotel rates over there aren't great. Believe it or not, D.R. is the most expensive country in latin america. For a regular, shity, hotel you're going to pay around $30-60 a night, all the way up to resort prices. If you want to catch a break, one great place to stay in Cabarete is Ali's Surf Camp. It's located at the East end of the city and a 10min walk on the beach to "kite beach," which is located at the west end. You can rent a bungalow there for like $10-15 a night i believe. If you have a group of guys, like we did, you can rent an apartment from them which is pretty cheap. It only ended up costing each of us about $70 for about 6 nights. One apartment contains a kitchen/bathroom/2 bedrooms (w/ 7 beds). Just don't expect to get off cheap staying in the D.R....they know gringos when they see 'em.
Chris Have fun over there! If you have any questions feel free to ask. P.S. Ya'll can check out Ali's online..just google it and see what you think. -sean |
